O.k. tonight was the funniest scripture reading ever. We have just started reading the Book of Mormon with all the kids, even the two little ones. We usually read scripture readers with them because of all the pictures, but we thought it was time to attempt the real thing. Tonight we read 1Nephi chapter 3. We all take turns reading one verse at a time. Connor and Lauren repeat the words of their verses. One of Lauren's verses was verse 28 "...Wherefore Laman and Lemuel did speak many hard words unto us, their younger brothers, and they did smite us with a rod."
Mom: Lauren, do you know what a rod is?
Lauren: A car!
(We used to have a small blue car that David called the "hot rod.")
Then David read verse 31: "And after the angel had departed, Laman and Lemuel again began to murmur..." David made a comment about how he couldn't believe that after the angel came they still complained.
David: Cole, would you murmur if an angel told you to do something?
Cole: No! I would even clean my room if an angel told me too!
Guess what I will be dressing up as tomorrow :)
So if that wasn't funny enough, we gave each kid a notebook to color a picture of something we read about, or write a sentence about something they learned. Lauren wanted to color the brass plates, and proceeded to make circles all over her page. I tried to explain that they weren't actual plates that you eat of off, but they were like a book with metal pages and they were rectangles. So she drew a rectangle and then asked, "Mommy can I draw a brass cup to go with it?"

Thank you for sharing that. That is so cute, I can picture it all. I love the way kids think.
that is soooo cute! I remember reading with my little kids and them trying to say "abominable" (i'm sure that's not spelled right!) and it was always so cute and fun. i love the idea of having them draw...a scripture journal! good for you! Tell us more funnies as they happen. :)
Thank you for sweet memories Melissa......
Yes Melissa...i did tag you...
:)
How fun it truly is very sweet !! And recording it here you will never forget all of the fun things they say !! What a treasure !!
I LOVE it!! I think kids are so funny, and add such a great perspective to the scriptures and the gospel.
James once told us that he wanted to go to the building {in Lehi's dream} I asked why and he said "because there are trophies in it"
Hilarious! We do scripture study the same way, but I love the notebook idea!
